Production Supervisor

Position Summary

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor has primary responsibility for meeting Vantage's Brand Promise (defect-free products, with a 98.5% fill rate, and the lowest production costs in the industry). The Production Supervisor directly supervises hourly skilled and production employees to ensure customer orders can be met.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain quality and presentation of product to highest standards
  • Accountability for Health and Safety, Food Safety, and HACCP
  • Daily reporting and accountability for yields and labour usage
  • Scheduling of employees and evaluations
  • Training and development of production personnel
  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement initiative
  • Flexible availability, including extensive hours as required (including variation of day/afternoon shifts as required to meet customer requirements)
  • Achieve operating budgets (i.e. safety, yields, labour, and packaging)
  • Knowledge of customer cutting and traying specifications
  • Computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing

Meat Cutters - Must cut required product in an efficient manner according to customer specifications and company standards on Quality, Safety, and Productivity.  Prior experience in meat cutting is required. For those without sufficient experience, it may be possible to enter Vantage Foods' Meat Cutter Apprentice program as opportunities become available.

Apprentice Meat Cutters - Whenever possible, we actively encourage interested employees to increase their skill level and pursue an apprenticeship to become a meat cutter in our facility. The training is specifically recognized by Vantage Foods for our own promotional and employee development purposes.

Over a period of several years, apprentice meat cutters become involved in all facets of cutting and preparing our products for our customers. At the end of the apprenticeship period, successful candidates are recognized as fully-qualified meat cutters within our facility. Experience as a meat cutter is not essential for our apprenticeship program, but at least six months employment with Vantage Foods is typically required in order to apply to enter the program.

Production Employees - As part of Vantage Foods' production team, you will produce retail-ready fresh meat products for our customers. These products include beef, pork, veal, ground beef, and fresh sausage products. Key development and performance areas for Production Employees at Vantage Foods include:

  • Learning and understanding all of the required food safety and quality requirements
  • Understanding and following all workplace safety regulations
  • Maintaining a focus on our customers' requirements - understanding our customers' requirements and working toward achieving them
  • Learning and understanding production equipment operations
  • Operating with a view to continuous Improvement
  • Performing as a member of a multi-disciplinary team

While experience with case-ready meat processes is not required to join our production team, a willingness to be part of a production/manufacturing team and an ability to follow strict food safety and workplace safety guidelines is essential.
